She planned to drug Duncan’s guards so that they would be unconscious when Duncan was asleep, then her and Macbeth would take the guards daggers, stab King Duncan and finally, smear the blood over the guards and return the daggers so that it looks like they were responsible for the murder. Lady Macbeth was the master mind of the murder King Duncan. She is attractive, charming and incredibly devoted to her husband’s career – enough to make her a cold blooded, dangerous and powerful figure who would do anything to make her and Macbeth to become queen and king even encouraging her husband to murder the current king. Lady Macbeth is another character who proves the thought of looks can be deceiving. We see these qualities when even Lady Macbeth, who says she would murder her own nursing babe, can’t kill him because, as she said, he “resembled my father as he slept”, because she did not want to harm such an innocent soul despite herself being consumed by evilness.Macbeth then became overrun by ambition, and his wife kept urging him to kill Duncan and eventually he gave in and assassinated the king.ĭo not think that Duncan was fit for the job of the king, because he couldn’t even tell which of his own men are going to betray him. He was the king of Scotland and he was kind, generous, benevolent, excitable, innocent, and a bit more cowardly than you might expect from a noble king. This was incredibly dangerous for a king in back in that time because of the abundance of security.Duncan has always has issues judging people’s appearances Macbeth was not the first thane who Duncan trusted, that then attempted to kill him. King Duncan trusted Macbeth, obviously with his life, because he stayed the night at Macbeth’s house instead of inviting Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to his own castle. Macbeth then becomes Thane of Cawdor and kills King Duncan and usurps the throne. Are the weird sister’s prophets, or does their words just influence the events of the play? King Duncan’s appearance was not deceiving – the reason I am writing about him is because he continuously falls for others looks and stereotypes. They tell him that he will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. This makes it very easy for the witches to be dishonest and deceptive, and duplicate and corrupt Macbeth’s mind.

The witches are very good at speaking in equivocal language, meaning what they are saying has two or more acceptable meanings.

The first time we see the witches’ evilness is in the beginning- “fair is foul, and foul is fair”, they chanted. They awaken Macbeths vaulting ambition to be king, and this is surprising as they have just manipulated somebody described as having so much valour.

They could easily be viewed as three ordinary old hags, and when Macbeth first meets the witches he quickly views them as honest and believes in them but he did not know that right from the start they were affecting and transforming him and his beloved wife. The relationship between Macbeth and the witches is the foundation of the entire plot. The three witches are ugly, so ugly that they are called the weird sisters, and they never appear apart. They show this idea not only with their looks, but also with their words. This essay will examine how this idea is shown throughout the play, in relation to the witches, King Duncan, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth. One of the main ideas in Macbeth is that appearances can be deceiving: that we can’t judge a book by its cover. He soon becomes consumed by this ambition, and this eventually leads to him and his wife’s death. It is about a former king of Scotland, Macbeth, who becomes ambitious for power. Macbeth is a famous play by William Shakespeare.
